Within Temptation is a Dutch symphonic metal band known for its grand, atmospheric, and emotional sound. The band was formed in 1996 by vocalist Sharon den Adel and guitarist Robert Westerholt. From early on, Within Temptation became one of the leading names in the European symphonic and gothic metal scene.
They gained major recognition with their second album, Mother Earth (2000), which embraced a strong symphonic metal style enriched with folk influences and orchestral arrangements. Signature tracks such as Ice Queen and Mother Earth became major hits across Europe, especially in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Germany.
Their international breakthrough expanded even further with the release of The Silent Force (2004). Featuring a full orchestra and a more polished production, the album included successful singles like Stand My Ground, Angels, and Memories.
